Market share is the percent share in sales one company controls in a particular market. High market share is desirable. A company with high percent share usually has greater influence over industry standards, pricing, consumer loyalty, etc. than one with small share. Thus one of the great battles in business is to gain market share - and hold it.

Market share is usually expressed in terms of percent share of sales in dollars or shipments in units. Two examples follow. Each entry is a table, the top describes the market being addressed and the % share itself, and the bottom references the source of the forecast.
